The vast majority of phone repairs — screens, batteries, charging ports — leave your data completely untouched. But things happen, and a current backup means you never have to worry. Here's how to do it quickly.
On an iPhone
Option 1: iCloud (wireless)
- Connect to Wi-Fi.
- Go to Settings → [your name] → iCloud → iCloud Backup.
- Tap Back Up Now and wait for it to finish.
Option 2: To a computer
Connect the iPhone to a Mac (Finder) or Windows PC (Apple Devices app), select your phone, and choose Back Up Now. A computer backup is great when you have a lot of photos and limited iCloud space.
On an Android phone
- Open Settings → Google → Backup (wording varies by brand) and tap Back up now.
- Make sure Google Photos is set to back up your photos and videos.
- Samsung and other brands also offer their own cloud or local backup — using both doesn't hurt.
What if my screen is too broken to use?
If your screen is shattered and you can't tap through a backup, don't worry — bring it in. In many cases the phone still works underneath, and the repair itself restores access so you can back up right after. Let us know it hasn't been backed up and we'll keep that in mind.
A quick checklist before you drop it off
- Backup completed (iCloud, Google, or computer).
- You know your Apple ID / Google account login.
- You've noted your screen-lock PIN or password for testing.
